Hunger

Hunger or food security continues to be a challenge for the community, with 50% of Cleveland residents living in food desserts(lack of access to fresh food). The challenge also extends into the suburbs.

You can assist by volunteering by serving at meals on wheels or food pantry sites, or at one of the many fresh distributions occuring.

Education/Youth Enrichment

Educational attainment is a struggle in the area with more than half of adults in Cuyahoga County not proficient in literacy, with many youth not meeting grade level benchmarks. Volunteers can make an impact by serving as classroom helpers and tutors; after school homework helpers; ESL instructors to refugees and others; youth mentors; and providing support to foster youth and families.

Housing

You can support the work of organizations whose mission is to provide safe, affordable housing to others. Volunteers are needed to serve on a home construction team, helping customers in a resale shop; as well as helping clients seek affording housing; and helping set up homes for refugee families.

Community Support

Volunteers can expand the impact of many organizations by providing administrative support; helping at local blood donation drives or providing disaster support; providing assistance for fundraising efforts; being a friend to someone living with an intellectual disability, and much more!

The Arts enrich our lives and support the local economy. Volunteers are needed to support the work of local arts and cultural organizations by serving as ushers and greeters; trainmen and servers on the railroad; or serving in museums or as arts instructors.

Health Services

Our access to health care and health education programs impacts the lives of all. Provide assistance by serving as a greeter or way finder at a local health care facility, facilitate discussions on healthy living, eating and mental health services, provide support to hospice patients and their families; or help sort repurposed medical supplies for humanitarian aid.

Let's work together to preserve, protect and restore our environment to ensure we can lead healthy lives today and in the future. Volunteers serve as trail monitors as well as guides sharing their love of nature with others.

Older Adult Services

The older adult population is increasing, and you can help provide services to older adults to help them be healthy physically, mentally and socially. Volunteers are needed to provide companionship to older adults living alone or in senior living facilities; serve as activity assistants or help them with minor physical tasks such as minor home repair and yard care.
